Best Ethiopian restaurant ever
DESCRIPTION: The injira bread is so thick and tender and delicious, I want to wear it. The platters have a lot of food, so don't be deceived by their apparent flatness. The red lentil stew is the yummiest dish, and everything is beautifully seasoned. The first time I ate at Asmara I refused to wash my hands all evening. I just sat at the ballet with my hands up to my nose, so I could continue to smell the amazing spices. I've eaten at other Ethiopian restaurants since then, but Asmara is still the best, in my opinion.

If You Like Spicy Food, You Will Love Taste of Africa
DESCRIPTION: I am addicted to this little hole in the wall. The food is very accessible to all (e.g., black-eye peas, spinach, yams, plantains), but the daily, home made hot sauce takes the food to new heights, absolutely amazing. The hot sauce is very spicy (i.e., made with habaneros), but is very complimentary of the flavors of the dishes. Overall, if you enjoy spicy food, this place will be on your regular hit list. The service is very laid back. As a result, you should allot yourself a couple of hours, but the Cameroonian family waitstaff is incredibly friendly and always a joy to be around. If chic ambiance and prompt service is a necessity for your dining pleasure, then this spot may not be for you. If not, then you will find the food, hot sauce, and non-conventional staff make this restaurant a real treat.

DESCRIPTION: I tried the vegetarian combo. (Forgive me, I forgot how to say it in Amharic.) The food was very flavorful, sometimes subtle, sometimes clear, always enjoyable. The waitresses were pleasant and helpful in explaining the menu. The building is modest, but clean, especially the restrooms. It appears that a fair number of Ethiopian neighbor locals eat there. That's a good sign.

DESCRIPTION: We went at about 11:30 at night on a Sunday. The place was clean. The music was pleasant. The staff was friendly. The food was incredible. I never had Ethiopian food before, and though its different, the flavors were strong, the spices were "spicy", but not too spicy, if you know what I mean. Anyway, I wish Abyssinia was closer to me.

Abyssinia Ethiopian Restaurant
DESCRIPTION: We went on a Sunday around noon. Place was empty except for one other table. Food was tasty but the service was very poor. Compared to the other Ethiopian restaurants in the area, the portions were small and the prices high. Facilites were run down. I love this type of cuisine but won't be returning mainly because of the service.

DESCRIPTION: I went to Abyssinia last weekend with 4 friends -- we split 5 vegetarian dishes, and each had a glass of wine. We each paid $11 -- what a great value for absolutely delicious food! I will absolutely be back soon.

Good food, slow service
DESCRIPTION: This is a simple and pleasant place to go if you like Ethiopean food. On every visit there my husband and I have enjoyed our meals a lot. The only consistent drawback is that although the waitresses are very kind, they are extremely slow to acknowledge your arrival, get you menus, take your order, and deliver the food. We have been the only ones in the place and had to wait :-p For us, however, the food outweighs this though the experience could be made better overall.

Good Food, Slow Service
DESCRIPTION: The food is excellent here but the service is extremely slow. They also didn't have highchairs so if you have little ones, prepare to eat with them on your lap. The servers are very friendly though.

Always Good
DESCRIPTION: You need to like cous-cous and lamb to appreciate The Fig, but if you do - go! It is set up in an old house that has modern art. It's not for a sheek night out. It's a neighborhood place that serves wonderful food at great prices. To me it has the best price/value equation in St. Paul. My wife and I go at least once a month!

DESCRIPTION: A wonderful place with non-varying high quality food and good, friendly service. It's the restaurant that other chefs eat at when they're out on the town. Everything on the menu is plain excellent, the flavor combinations are the best.

DESCRIPTION: Some friends and I recently had dinner at Manny's Beachside. My friend ordered the Greek Salad (which I wouldn't recommend) and decided she didn't like it and wanted to send it back. We politely asked the waitress if she would take it back and let her order something else. She forcefully asked us what exactly was wrong with the salad in a harsh tone. When my friend said she didn't like it, the waitress continued to rudely badger her about it. Finally she left and took the salad with her. Next, she wouldn't split up our checks so we could pay separately, since none of us had small enough bills to split the bill evenly. I called the manager over and he annoyedly gave us change and we paid the bill which came to about 30 dollars and we left a pretty lousy tip. The waitress mocked us and followed us out the door saying "Yea. Yea. Have a GREAT night," in a rude manner and then called my friend a "little ****". I was outraged. Not only had we had poor service and food that was certainly NOT worth 30 dollars but we were then degraded and called names. I immediately went to speak to the manager but he wouldn't do anything but "have a talk with her after her shift." All I asked for was my money back for the poor meal and the disgusting way that we were treated. He wouldn't compensate me for anything. He said that we don't pay for the service, we pay for the food. When going out to dinner, I pay for the service and atomosphere AS WELL AS the food. And I can tell you that even the food wasn't worth what we paid.

Good Pizza
DESCRIPTION: They have remodeled and it's alot nicer now. The pizza is 100% better and they have a game area for kids. We had no problem w/ the service. Maybe it's under new management now. We had been here a year ago and it was terrible and the food not great but it has definatly changed since the last time we where there. Our greek salad was good and the pizza was alot better than others I've had. Our kids had fun.

Trying hard to be European
DESCRIPTION: The Euro-pretension, complete with occasionaly snobbishness, is annoying, but the food is quite good. Many creative, interesting small dishes make it a very pleasing meal. In summer, you can sit on the sidewalk -- just like the Europeans do!

Cafe Felix is my favorite place
DESCRIPTION: Cafe Felix was my favorite place to go when I lived in Ann Arbor- and now that I don't, I look forward to going there for a nice cup of coffee, omelette or a Martini and dinner! This place is THE place to go if you are 20-35...great people watching, beautiful atmosphere and the best out-of-college patio in Ann Arbor. A+++

Nice atmosphere but bad food
DESCRIPTION: It's got a great location - right in the middle of main street. It's got a great French-American menu. However, the execution falls far short of its potential. The Croque Monsieur was not even close to its name-sake - indeed, it was a plain ham & cheese sandwich. The bread was stale. The ham wasn't top quality. The cheese wasn't gruyere. Very disappointing.

DESCRIPTION: It's so nice to have a completely vegan (minus the well marked honey-containing products) restaurant. I can't tell how much I appreciate not having to say, "please no butter, cheese, mayonnaise, meat broth, etc.", and then sending something back, almost always- which I don't like to do anyway- because they did, accidentally, use cheese. Charleston is lucky to have this alternative, and I'm surprised we don't have more at least vegetarian restaurants.

DESCRIPTION: Dahlak has been a West Philly favorite for years and is finally now getting some notoriety outside of the neighborhood. Excellent food, exceptionally pleasant and courteous service, homey atmosphere. Back bar draws ecletic neighborhood crowd as well as African locals. Outdoor seating also available behind the restaurant.
